Hi! Can you introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about where you’re based and what you do?

I’m Revenge Wife, hi! I’m a musician though I usually say artist, because I’m a multi-hyphenate girly. I write my songs, I have my hand majorly in the production, I direct and edit all of my visuals, I direct for other people, I am a dancer and choreographer. I love art. I’m currently based in NYC and I’ve been making music for over 10 years now!

How have your surroundings influenced your personal style? We know you recently moved to New York from California!

Yeah! I recently relocated to NYC from LA and it’s been a major change. Space is so important to me. For instance, I recently realized that I remember my dreams spatially, as in, I can recall the space before any other detail. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a Libra, but I need the space around me to inspire my art. I spent a lot of time in Italy in 2021 and 2022, to conceptualize my album and that’s where my Italo-disco sound came from. I honestly feel super inspired by the churches there because they’re such ornate adorations to spirituality and art and it makes me want to be a better artist. I want to live in a church someday.

Being in New York I definitely wear more black and less color, and I also cover up more than I did in LA (because subway), and I opt for comfort too, because I’m usually walking around a lot or biking. This 100% influences my personal style. I notice that I like to stay kind of discreet on a daily basis.

Can you walk us through your thought process when you get dressed for the day? How, or does, this change when you’re getting dressed for a concert?

Fashion foreverrr! I love expressing myself through style and yeah it definitely changes when i’m getting dressed for a day in the studio versus on-stage. On stage, I can be a heightened version of myself. I want it to feel instantly iconic and be easy to move in, because I dance a lot. On a normal day, I’m really just feeling into what I want to be perceived as. I think I alternate between feeling like a hot girl and then feeling baggy and masculine. I also love juxtaposing these two worlds. I love wearing the same jewelry daily and having a story with those pieces. Honestly, everything I wear has a story, so when I get dressed, I am adorning myself with my personal history. There’s a great book called Healing Yourself With Light by LaUna Huffines, and it talks about the healing frequency of colors and I tap into that a lot too.

Are there any style rules you tend to inherently stick to when getting dressed?

I don’t stick to many rules when getting dressed but oddly I tend to not wear more than three colors. I notice that’s something I’ve done for years. I love mismatching colors and vibes, but there’s somehow a balance to all of it. My main rule is, it has to make me feel good. I get rid of anything that doesn’t make me feel like the person I want to be. Especially underwear that doesn’t make me feel hot, haha get that out of here! Cute lingerie only.

What or who has been inspiring you lately?

I’m in my Y2K era but in a Cavalli, Cache, Arden B way. I’m scouring the internet for those brands because they fit my body really well and I’m into feeling like the best version of myself. A quick list of my current inspiration is:

In what outfit do you feel the most you?

Lately my go to outfit is a Y2K era vintage Ralph Lauren silk maxi skirt, with a tight black muscle tank with a rhinestone star on it, and birkenstocks. I wear it with a 2005 Vera Wang lime green tote which I bring around because I’m in NYC and it fits my books and notebook! This look is really so me, I have a vintage Bob Mackie silk skirt that I wore to death last year and I bought this similar RL one because I thought, I should buy nice things that I actually wear!

You’ve got an exciting show coming up—'HOT AMERICA' at Baby’s All Right on July 3rd. Can you walk us through what the theme means to you and how you’re bringing it to life through your performance and wardrobe?

I’m sooo excited for my show July 3!! I want it to be hot and sweaty and raw. Since the show is on the eve of July 4th I wanted the theme to be the best part of America– the sexy, fun aspect! It’s always a weird time to blindly celebrate the US because there are so many issues that we have as Americans, but my audience is progressive and I want the show to be a safe space where we can live out these caricatures. It kind of feels kink-ish, because a lot of people might not feel comfortable dressing in these over-the-top American ways, but it’s a part of our culture and I want to have a night where we explore it. It’s all very fun, and compassionate and it’s not too serious.

When it comes to performance outfits in general, we can't get enough of your style (cc: this fit)! What's your process for creating a look? Are there any accessories or particular details that are essential to completing it?

Ahh thank you! My process for creating a look is pretty loose, I make a pinterest, I shop a lot of vintage. I like to pull from some designers, Miista, Sherris, Mila Sullivan. I honestly don’t do too many pulls though because it’s time consuming and I tend to move around a lot and I don’t want to be worried about ruining anything. I wear what makes me feel good. For that show that you mentioned, I was just thinking, I want to look hot, and it was a chill NYC show so I wanted to wear something I would normally wear out. That look is pretty balanced, just white, black and lime green.

For my show at Baby’s that’s coming up, I want to look more elevated but I’m still open and searching for what exactly that means. I do know that I want to feel comfortable and I need it to photograph well. I’m shopping vintage and I’m checking for the fabrics. The only thing I always wear on stage are these Capezio fishnets – pro-dancer quality fishnets. Otherwise I want to have fun and honestly I’ll probably be deciding on my look up to the day before! Eek!
